Nate’s Monday Morning Message Volume 1,294: Service that sets you apart

Good morning, and welcome to today’s Monday Morning Message! I once heard someone say, “You can buy the same shirt at Walmart or Nordstrom, but it’s the experience that makes the difference.”

That idea stuck with me. At Nordstrom, the focus isn’t just on the product — it’s on the person. The attention, the care, and the willingness to go the extra mile make customers feel valued and respected. Walmart, on the other hand, is designed for efficiency and affordability. It serves its purpose — but it doesn’t create loyalty in the same way exceptional service does.

In business, we face the same choice every day: Do we operate like Nordstrom or Walmart? Are we giving people an experience that makes them feel seen and cared for? Or are we simply checking boxes to complete a transaction?

Exceptional service means doing more than what’s required. It’s anticipating needs, following up, communicating clearly, and making people feel good about choosing to work with you. It’s about relationships, not routines.

And service doesn’t stop with clients — it extends to our families, our coworkers, and our community. When we bring that same “Nordstrom” level of care to everything we do, we not only elevate our business but strengthen the kind of community we want to be part of.

Let’s challenge ourselves this week to raise the bar. Smile more. Listen deeper. Follow through quicker. The smallest act of genuine service can make the biggest impression. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Brief Exchange Of Kindness In The Grocery Story When I Needed It Most

So within the last couple weeks, my wife of 10 years told me she wants to separate, and it’s been very hard.

I’ve had a rough couple of days and on my way home from work today I stopped by the grocery store. As I was heading to checkout, a man stopped me and out of nowhere started to talk to me.

I forget how it started but basically, he said “Hey keep it going, I believe in you. God bless you. Don’t give up man.”

I was taken a back, so I didn’t know what to say at first and we parted ways.

Now, I’m not religious and I could tell it came from a place of faith or religion. And I had seen him stopping other people in the store to talk to them as well. But in that moment, I felt like he could tell I was hurting and that those kind words meant more than he knew.

I tried to find him after I checked out and tell him thank you, that I felt seen and I appreciated the brief moment of kindness.
